Year 9 Endangered & Extinct
As an introduction to this project, students looked in detail at the work of two contemporary artists - ROA and Caitlin Hackett, exploring their works in their sketchbooks. I placed an emphasis on the importance of individual response and the effective use of visual and written language throughout. The first images in the slideshow below feature a selection of sketchbook pages containing Artist Studies and biro pen drawings of the works.
The students also had the opportunity to develop their own ideas by independently researching an endangered species, taken at random from a list I supplied. I also gave them introductions to a wide range of other artists and designers who are interested in similar subject matter.
As the project progressed, the students worked increasingly independently to plan, develop and complete a final piece of their own, inspired by the theme, 'their' species and the artists they investigated. We moved through mind-mapping, planning and refinement before beginning the final pieces, featured in the slideshow below.
